FEATURED "PIC OF THE DAY" MAY 18, 2006
With freshly packed friction bearings and a new set of brake shoes all around courtesy of Cochrane's Rip Crew, water tender 1695 (which I could have sworn would be retired with ONR's purchase of water tenders last year) stands ready to resume service supplying 6700 gallons of the good stuff to the Maintenance of Way Department May 17th. As you can see, 1695 is actually two cars in one with the tank car's framework replaced by one of ONR's few remaining 40 foot flat cars.
SOME EXTRA INFORMATION
Thanks to input from an old friend at the Maintenance of Way Department, ONT 1695 is actually on hand at Cochrane Yard as an added safety measure. With forecasts predicting a long, hot summer in the area, the tender is being used as an emergency water supply in the event of fires either in the Yard itself, or out on the Main where the water supply is minimal.
