July 11th's "Pic of the Day" features yet another look
at the 421 "Super Bear" as seen rolling out of the CN
side of Cochrane Yard July 4th. This photo gives you a
general idea of what the head end freight consist of a
typical Polar Bear Express will look like. So far, the
arrangement looks pretty much like this, with the Canoe
Car being first up serving as a "buffer" between the
power and the chain cars. Behind the Chain Cars is
Baggage 413, ONR's new northbound Mail Car. You can see
a 2800 series box car coupled up behind the baggage car.
On this particular day, that box car would be designated
as the mail car with 413 being brought down to the Shop
Rip. The "southend" consist of the Polar Bear will
include a baggage car (412), the Express Freight Car,
and the ATV/Skidoo Car.
