PIC OF THE DAY SEPTEMBER 13, 2008
September 13th's "Pic of the Day" comes from Cochrane Yard's "Shed
2" Track, where we see Ontario Northland's "IB" fleet undergoing
some modifications. As you can see on ONT 261, New Carrier "Solara"
heaters are replacing the circa 1970's alcohol undersling heating
systems on the 3 car ex-CN insulated car fleet. Solara is the
trailer heating system specially designed to protect cargo
transported in extreme low-ambient climates. It protects by
maintaining cargo above a specified minimum temperature. Solara
delivers a full 30,000 Btuh (8,792 watts) of heat at -20°F (-29°C)
ambient-and 3,200 CFM (5,437 m3/h) of airflow-for premiem cargo
protection in today's longer, wider thinwall trailers, and boxcars
(in ONR's case), even with multiple door openings.
And a "Happy Birthday" goes out to Jonathon Corley :)
