While snapping a photo of a snowbound 1804 & 1808 putting away their coach consist after arriving from a southbound Little Bear December 2001, I stumbled on this odd little sight. An obvious "Red Green" fan had the job of temporarily putting unit numbers on the rear of 1808. I'm not sure why they had to do that at the time, but I later learned that a front number board was smashed after 1808 had a run in with a flying raven. This required the removal of a rear number board to replace the broken front board until a suitable replacement arrived for installation.
