This photo was captured in the vicinity of Mile 30 on the Kapuskasing Subdivision where nine CP 50 foot plug doors wind up on the ground while enroute to Kapuskasing from Cochrane on 313 September 2005. What we see here is the clean up process undertaken by Maintenance of Way Crews, where reopening the line is top priority. What happens is, the derailed cars, along with the damaged track, are literally shoved out of the way by excavators in order to provide the necessary working space to rebuild the track. ONR will simply cut a cheque to CP for the derailed cars, and scrap them pretty much then and there when time permits. Off in the distance, Maintenance of Way Section Crews are in the process of laying ties and spiking rail.
