October 2002. New 115 pound rail and heavy duty switches are installed at Cochrane Junction. It's now the job of GP38-2 1808 and Spreader 529 along with her Crew to evenly spread freshly dumped ballast along the newly laid stretches of track. It's a long and teadious task as we see ONR Foreman Bob (walking alongside in the this photo) checking the progress of the spreading and giving instructions to 529's operator. Full communication with the Running Crew (today being Merrill and Lincoln) is also necessary due to the fact that Spreaders aren't self-propelled.
