In late September 2002, Ontario Northland set out to complete an upgrade of the crossover switches and railway crossing at Cochrane Junction (The division point of the Island Falls and Kapuskasing Subdivisions located at 3rd Avenue in Cochrane). One of the first jobs of this project was to replace the crossing itself running across a recently built "3 Lane" entrance to town. Here we see the intracate work of a "Tamper" lifting each individual tie and backfilling with ballast to raise the track bed. It was a day long project which required a complete shut down of this entrance to town for a good part of a Sunday afternoon.
